Werzer’s Hotel in Pörtschach- Lake Wörth (Wörthersee)

I would like to share with you my impressions of a special hotel in Austria, as not often one is struck by the atmosphere of a location. My last trip introduced me to a beautiful region in Austria  known as Carinthia, more specifically the Wörth Lake region: an enchanting lake which offers countless activities all year round. This region, only a 3- and- a- half- hour – ride away from Munich, has been for many centuries a European crossroad for different cultures . Italy and Slovakia are less than an hour away and its influences are noticeable  in the architecture, cuisine and fashion.

Lake Wörth is well known in the summer for its countless activities, which range from water skiing to SUP board tours on the lake ( the best way to view the gorgeous villas by the water). Munichmom had the pleasure of staying at  Werzers Hotel Pörtschach  in November and found this season also quite magical.

WERZERS HOTEL, PÖRTSCHACH

Werzers is a beautiful family hotel right on the water. The view is spectacular and, should you forget where you are between a luxurious massage or a typical Carinthian dinner, you will be reminded by the gorgeous snapshots of the lake, available from  almost every room.

THE HOTEL AND ITS HISTORY

The hotel , directly situated on the water, offers a spectacular view  during the day as well as at night. In the early morning a light fog seems to glide on the water, by midday  the sun is out in all its splendor and in the evening the lights show the majesty of the lake , in a quite muffled atmosphere.

The history of Werzers, a family owned hotel, roots back to the year 1780 when a local young man named Franz Jakob Werzers, discovers this incredible piece of land over-looking the lake. His vision of a wellness oasis for the people residing in the adjacent cities, goes beyond his time. Werzers, one of Austria’s first tourism entrepreneurs, opens the doors to Carinthia, which is nowadays a loved tourist location for families all around the world.

The Werzers Kids Club

As I mom myself I do value a high quality kids club. Like many other moms, I swing between enjoying the child- free time and feeling guilty that I am not spending enough time with my little one. The Werzers Kids Club got me out of this conundrum, as their one-of-a-kind activities attracts kids of all ages and, my experience is, kids don’t want to leave.

Long and flexible child care hours ( 9.30 am -9.00 pm) make it very easy to set up child care which works for every family. A tête à tête dinner with your spouse, an afternoon nap, a relaxed breakfast: all wishes, I feel , are enabled once you know your child is having fun.

Craftin

Beside the many arts and crafts activities, the Werzers Kids Club offers some special events such as Karaoke for kids, marionettes theater, and an evening torchlight walk!

The Restaurants

Werzers Hotel in Pörthschach offers three outstanding dining locations with exceptional lake views, high quality regional products and an impeccable service.

Retsaurant

Werzers Lake Restaurant, the main restaurant, is a beautiful space with direct view on the lake. In the summer one can dine on the terrace and enjoy the stunning view. Theme nights, gala dinners and street food events transform every evening in a special experience. Moreover, the Werzers Lake Sun-Downer Lounge is a special place, you do not want to miss.

Terrace

The Werzers à la carte restaurant, literally on the shores of lake Wörth, is an experience one should not miss when staying at the hotel. You can really taste the proximity to Italy in the dishes of the Werzer’s à la carte menu. The kitchen skillfully combines the Mediterranean flavors with the best products of the  region.

The Bathhouse Restaurant

This has proven to be my favorite place! Whether for a midday snack, an aperitif after a sauna-filled afternoon or just..because, the Bathhouse restaurant and bar has conquered me from the very first day.

The Werzers Bathhouse is a little gem which will conquer you in no time. For me it was love at first sight!

Boathouse

The Werzer’s bathhouse is located right in front of the resort directly on the shores of the lake. Dating back to 1895 it is the only surviving bathhouse at lake Wörth. In 1987 it was declared a world heritage site and in May 2013 it was restored to its original beauty.

The stunning architecture by Josef Viktor Fuchs, is reminiscent of the bathhouse architecture we know from Southern England or the North See. The original white wood paired with glass, made my sauna experience unforgettable.

The Bathhouse hosts the Wellness area as well as a warm pool ( 32 degrees Celsius) pool area, designated for adults. ( Please note there is a family and children friendly pool area as well as an adult-only wellness and pool area).

Swimming under the stars all year round, various types of sauna and then chance to cool off in the beautiful lake . An uncanny experience.

The sunset suite, also known as ‘honey -moon suite’  is located on the first floor of the Werzers Bathhouse.

The Advent and Christmas season

On November 24th the Advent season begins! Velden, the adjacent town, becomes a magical village full of angels during the Advent period. The angel post office, the angel bakery and the floating Advent wreath. The Christmas time is quite special at lake Wörth and many Christmas markets are situated in the close vicinity of the hotel.
