Let’s be real! Sometimes mom’s need a break. Sometimes we need a break all the way over in another country surrounded by your best friends who happen to be mom’s as well. We need that understanding and camaraderie, and glass(es) of wine with other winter worn out ladies at 30,000 feet in the air escaping to a much sunnier climate!
I was able to experience that much-needed reboot earlier this month and I’m finally able to tell you about it. This is a first for Munichmom. We have extended our thoughts into travel because we all do it and all sometimes like to hear about it. This will be a three-day story arc:) bc why would I try to fit all of the funny stories, restaurants, bars, sightseeing, and shenanigans into one story when I can make three;) Today we will focus on the 5 star Claris Hotel, bc it was the jewel of a luxury hotel that we stayed at during our vacation.
We scored this hotel after lots of searching on the GOOGLE by me, myself, and I reached out to Derby Hotel collections to inquire more information about the hotel to let them know about our group and why we were coming. Melanie Moreno reached out to us to help with this process and give us all of the pertinent information. She was excellent and went out of her way to give us the extra welcome.
She helped us book three luxury superior rooms for the 6 of us. It was the most smooth travel planning that I have done in a while. After a 2 hour plane ride and a seemingly never-ending trek through the airport to just find the exit and taxi, pulling up to this hotel was a welcome relief.
At once upon arrival we were attended to by the doorman who helped us with our bags and guided us to the reception area to get us checked in. We were a bit early so they stored our bags, sat us in the lounge and gave us champagne to toast our arrival and our upcoming adventures!!
So let’s just dig into how incredible this hotel is. First let’s start with location, location, location!! Set in a former 19th-century palace in the very heart of Barcelona this beautiful, upscale hotel is really close to everything on the to-do list. It’s 1.1 km from the Passeig de Gràcia metro station and 1.5 km from the iconic Sagrada Família.
The hotel has…
124 luxury guest rooms: superior rooms, executive rooms, junior suites, junior suite duplex, suites and suite duplex.
Our rooms were terrific!! When we first entered our rooms we were treated with a gift of welcome chocolates, complimentary artisan water, bottle and roses. That was a real outstanding welcome and really set the tone for how we would be treated by the hotel staff for the entirety of our stay. Each room in the Claris Hotel is unique thanks to the original works of art on display in each of them. Some of the features were.
- Luxuxy Bathroom with marble trim, with bath
- Free wifi internet access
- Sony Bluetooth connection
- Individual heating and air-conditioning
- Flat-screen LCD TV
- DVD on request
- Music system
- Completely sound-proofed
- Direct phone line
- 70-channel satellite TV
- 24-hour room service
In the hotel you will also find rooftop pool, and gym and sauna. The rooftop restaurant and bar is also lovely for drinks by the pool or lounge area.
They offer three restaurants that are really good. Mr. Kao a Unique dining concept that blends the best of Chinese and Mediterranean cuisine. The Claris Restaurantand La Terraza del Claris. All three are very good restaurants that we will delve more into for tomorrows posts.
A little hidden jem about the hotel is that it boasts its own little exclusive museum of artwork. While I was just hanging out in the lounge, the receptionist came over to ask if I had visited the museum and suggested that I visit since I had not known about it. That was a totally unsuspecting aspect of the hotel. It was just above the lounge and matched the theme of the artwork that was in of the hotel rooms.Featuring Original works of Egyptian art , engravings commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte, mosaics and Roman sculptures from the 2nd and 3rd centuries – an art lover’s paradise with over 400 works.
Our stay at this hotel was perfect for us. We were really catered to by the staff. They even helped us plan our stay there making suggestions, securing transportation and making dinner reservations for each night.
I would recommend it to all and most definitely go again.
